Mit dem Townhaus leben/Living with the Townhouse at Gallery Kai Hoelzner, Berlin is an exhibition reflecting the structural change in the city of Berlin. More inner city places than ever remain unused while, simultaneously, the resources for social housing run short. Properties are reserved for owner-occupiers, privileged buildings contain freehold flats.
The exhibition prepares a combination of text samples from various media such as advertising from the field of commercial estate or critical and indiscriminate coverage caused by the building boom in Berlin. The central point of reference for the selected text fragments is Tom Wolfe`s 1981 narrative From Bauhaus to Our House. As a visual supplement Dominikus Müller and Kito Nedo arranged photographs from Nine Budde and a text by Robert Burghardt.
