self-portraits, transformation #1, 2010, pictures. myself.
Dealing with theories and methods of Gender Studies while constantly improving my photographic knowledge, I produced various series of self – portratiture.
The photos show, gender roles are not merely constituted by attributes, but their generation is rather made up by activity.
In my understanding, the gender specific core is achieved by a permanent representation of the body. Thinking of the body as a process – not as a location – its surface is constantly performing gender. The portraits show different stages of transformation from woman to men, while I was espacially interested in the pictures, that do not reveal a clear affiliation to the wo-man dichotomy.
